JHS Overdrive Preamp Here's a great overdrive pedal. I bought this after watching a demonstration of it by the great Paul Gilbert. It is modeled after the vintage DOD overdrive used in the beginning by guys like Zakk Wylde and Yngwie Malmsteen. It's a great pedal! I prefer this overdrive to usual tube screamer types because it retains the punch of the amp and doesn't have that extreme midrange bump that seems to flatten the sound. It primarily adds grit and touch sensitivity so it feels like you can fly across the strings with a lighter touch. I bought this pedal for some travel gigs where I wouldn't take my pedalboard but I didn't do my research because this does not have a battery option . This only works with a 9 volt adapter. I used it at rehearsals with the pedalboard but I need to find something close to this that takes batteries. This is a larger pedal too - nearly double the size of the smaller MXR pedals. This is a pre-owned pedal in near mint condition, used at 2 rehearsals, works great and comes with the original box, booklet, sticker, and JHS pin (for a jean jacket or something).
