DESCRIPTION Peerless Music is proud to be an authorised dealer for Mozztronics: Effects pedals for guitar and bass, hand made in Australia by electrical engineer and musician Andrew Macdonald. BP-8 TUBE BASS PREAMP After making our Valve guitar pedals TD-900, TD-900N and the TD-800, we thought, why should the guitarists have all the fun, lets make a Valve Bass Preamp pedal based on the Classic F2B. We took the essence of the circuit from the F2B preamp and fitted it inside a pedal. We use an actual 12AX7 tube inside just as the preamp does, and we run the tube at proper amp high voltage. We’ve gone old school here, we use circuits that were used to generate high voltage in old time television sets to generate the high voltage for the tube in this pedal. This pedal does clean to medium drive and is great for warming up a bass and giving some valve warmth to a solid state bass rig. The original F2B preamp only had a single volume control, so there was no way to run it at higher gains and reduce the output volume so as to not slam the power amp these were connected to, so it was essentially a clean valve preamp. We thought this was a waste of a tube, so we added a gain control, and an output volume control, so if dirt, or even just a little “grit” is your thing, then turn up the gain a little and you can get the lovely sound of a cranked valve amp but at sensible volumes. We here at Mozztronics like to think of this pedal as an extension of your amplifier. GAIN controls the amount of overdrive from clean to a nice dirty drive BASS, MID and TREBLE are the 3 knob tone stack as found in the actual F2B preamp VOLUME adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal. There is a lot of output available here, Start with output volume at 9 o’clock. As with our other Tube Drive pedals (TD-900, TD-900N and TD-800) we power this pedal from an external 15VAC to 16VAC supply. Mozztronics uses the industry standard 2.1mm socket for the power supply connection. Power is from an external 15VAC 0.4A plugpack.
